Ballet/Jazz
This class is a combination class of ballet and jazz dance styles, both fitted within a 45-minute lesson. This class is an introduction to a classic ballet class, following the traditional class format of barre, center, and across the floor exercises in a compact 20 minute lesson. During the jazz portion of the class, students will learn leaps, turns, and the classic Jazz performance qualities we all know and love!
Ballet/Tap
This is a 45-minute beginning ballet and tap combination class. This is a great class for beginning dancers, as well as dancers who are ready to take their technique up to the next level. Class begins with approximately 30 minutes of ballet technique and choreography, followed by approximately 15 minutes of tap technique, choreography, and improvisation/creative movement. Dancers also learn about the storytelling aspects of Ballet and develop their sense of rhythm in Tap.
Broadway Musicals: Performing
Think Broadway appreciation club meets acting meets dance! Dancers will learn about the style, importance, and history of different musicals through physical storytelling and dance. We will practice jazz and ballet dance technique, improvisational acting, and using the face and body to communicate emotions. This class is ideal for students who enjoy exploring movement, being challenged, and wish to improve their confidence on stage. Previous dance experience is helpful but not required. We recommend this class for dancers who are interested in or are currently a part of our Team of Performers groups.
Broadway Tap/Jazz
This combo class will feature tap and jazz technique in each class with a special emphasis on storytelling and visual performance. Dancers will learn how to combine dance and acting to gain confidence in their ability to be on stage and entertain an audience while exploring different musical soundtracks. We recommend this class for musical theater enthusiasts who want to learn more about dance, dancers who enjoy performing, and students interested in or currently in our Team of Performers groups.
Cheer
Learn elements of cheerleading in the context of dance! This class will focus on the importance of rhythm and musicality, flexibility and stretching, and learn performative choreography.
Conditioning for Pointe
This class is designed to be taken in conjunction with regular ballet technique classes and does not participate in the annual recital. It focuses on developing the essential strength, flexibility, and body awareness required for safe and successful pointe work. Students will engage in targeted exercises to enhance foot articulation, improve alignment, and build strength in the ankles, legs, core, and upper body. This class is required for all dancers who would like to be considered for pointe, as well as for those currently enrolled in Beginning Pointe.
Contemporary
Contemporary I is all about exploring fluid, expressive movement and having fun with the way our bodies move! This class focuses on coordination and movement quality, helping dancers learn how to connect their physical skills with their own artistic style. Dancers will pick up new terminology and work on alignment through expressive center work and across-the-floor sequences. No previous experience is required—this is a great space to discover how to use your body to tell a story through dance.
Creative Ballet
Dancers will learn beginning ballet technique and vocabulary in a developmentally appropriate setting. This class will allow children to express themselves creatively using imaginative props, story dancing, creative dramatics, and folk dancing. Let your child fall in love with dance at a young age so that they will want to continue to improve their dance technique as they grow!
Creative Ballet/Jazz
This class is a combination of the ballet and jazz dance styles, both fitted within a 45-minute
lesson. Students will experience approximately 20 minutes of each dance form in a way that is
both fun and age-appropriate, and end each class with a freestyle or teacher-led activity.
Students will learn fundamental ballet steps that focus on their fine motor skills. Teachers use
fun imagery to keep the students focused while learning baller terminology. Jazz will focus on
musicality, teaching students classic jazz moves while listening to fun, age-appropriate music!
Creative Ballet/Tap
This class is a combination of the ballet and tap dance styles, both fitted within a 45-minute lesson. Students will experience approximately 20 minutes of each dance form in a way that is both fun and age-appropriate, and end each class with a freestyle or teacher-led activity. Class structure will vary depending on teacher and overall age range of the class, but will still follow a familiar pattern and routine. This is a great class for dancers who want to experience other styles, but who may not be ready for the intensity and focus of a single-style lesson, or have time for multiple classes throughout the week. This class will focus on the rhythm and musicality that is tap, and the grace, posture and balance of ballet.
Creative Dance
Meant for older toddlers and early preschool years, this class will have some jazz and ballet elements, but will mostly be focused on fun, creative activities designed to get the dancers out of their comfort zone and learn to be confident in dancing in their own skin. This class will repeat a single lesson every two weeks, to encourage memory and anticipation of expected activities. Throughout the entirety of the session, each lesson will follow an overarching, consistent structure. This class is not parent-participation, but still has the security of still having parents nearby in the open-observation studio setting.
Creative Pop Hop
This exciting class is an age-appropriate version of hip hop for younger dancers, and the youngest hip-hop-style class we currently offer. The class will use today’s pop songs and moves, creating a fun way for our young dancers to get funky! It will include cardio, circuits, and strength training moves, as well as incorporate props and storytelling creative elements to encourage freedom of expression and confidence.
Creative Tap
Like Creative Ballet, this class will teach your child the basic fundamentals of tap in a way that is both age and developmentally-appropriate. Classes will run largely on a set structure, with tap shoes coming off towards the end to do both freestyle and teacher-led creative activities. Dancers will learn the basics of rhythm, timing, and how to follow a group, as well as short pieces of choreography that vary month to month. We will stomp like Dinosaurs, drive cars like Bluey, and tippy-toe like mice. It’ll be a fun time for sure!
Creative Tap/Jazz
This class introduces your child to the fundamentals of tap and jazz. Dancers will learn the basics of rhythm, timing, and how to follow a group, all while picking up short pieces of choreography that rotate month to month. We’ll stomp like dinosaurs, drive cars like Bluey, and tippy-toe like mice—it’s a high-energy, fun-filled time for everyone!
Dance 'n Play
Young dancers explore movement with parents and peers while enjoying activities and props set to fun music. A great way to introduce young children to dance and social learning, each lesson is repeated twice for the dancers to return to familiar routines. The class as a whole follows the same step-by-step structure throughout the entirety of the session. Because this class is meant for older infants and young toddlers, they are the priority! If you need to take some time to step outside, hold onto a prop for a little longer, calm a frustrated dancer faced with taking turns, it is all welcome here.
Hip Hop I
In Hip Hop I, students will learn the basics of Breaking Fundamentals: Top Rocks, Down Rocks,
Power Moves and Freezes. Students should expect a high-energy class, filled with groovy
footwork & classic Hip Hop social steps. They will be invited to partake in our cypher, a freestyle
“battle” where students incorporate the Breaking Fundamentals they learn throughout the year!
Hip Hop II
Hip Hop 2 focuses on building upon the concepts learned in Hip Hop 1, such as rhythm awareness, history of the dance, and basic top rock movements. In this class, eras of stylistic hip-hop are also further explored. 1980’s Top Rock, 2000’ Swag Era, and present day Pop Groove are some of the styles students will get to further explore in both movement and history. Every class begins with a brief warm-up consisting of hip-hop movements we will either use that day or that month, followed by a short across-the-floor hip-hop variation. After, a partnered game is played focusing on rhythm awareness, spatial awareness, and creativity. The last part of class is focused on working on choreography for a specific upcoming piece, or giving the students a chance to come up with their own choreography. Once every other class, the last five minutes will be devoted to free-styling, as it is often viewed as one of the hardest traits for a dancer to master. To freestyle without any choreographed movement ahead of time, completely unaware of what the music will be, challenges the dancer to utilize skills such as quick critical thinking, confidence, and multitasking, to name a few. Dancers will have to freestyle anywhere from 30 seconds to one minute, never knowing when the music will stop.
Intermediate Jazz
This is a fast paced 45-minute class that focuses on Jazz technique including kicks, turns, and leaps, as well as Jazz choreography. This is a great class for dancers who are already familiar with the basics of Jazz dancing such as pas de bourres, single pirouettes and chaine turns, and are ready for more of a challenge. Set to upbeat music, class begins with a warm up followed by stretching, technique, and choreography. Ballet is recommended, as it provides the foundation to Jazz technique.
